• What are Linux users?

  • a bunch of people who hate each other's distros, but hate Apple more

• Why Nix?

  • OCD I'm very specific
    • terminal on desktop 2, firefox on 3
    • lid close should not make laptop sleep
    • caps and escapse should be swapped
    • windows should look a certain way
    • new window should break in half and open a certain way - need predictability
    • but settings should open as flaoting
    • need to achieve anything in 2 or 3 keypresses
  • configurability
  • reproducibility
  • faster setup
    • switched 4 laptops in the past 1.5 years

• Accuracy

  • ask soomeone to switch to a desktop / open a few tabs etc
  • demo changing USE_RECOMMENDATION in settings.py
    • worked because OS is configured so that a given app is present at a given place
    • because vim has keys which will do exactly the same thing on the same keypress

• Is it perfect?

  • Ofcourse not. Far from it. For example, I cannot see my mouse pointer on my termial and its irritating when I want to copy paste errors for searching
  • bluetooth wans't working until last week
  • battery life 5 hours compared to maybe 9 hours on your devices
  • I for the love of God cannot edit HTML file
  • but I still prefer these imperfections over MacOS
